Prosthesis is a kind of artificial limb used by amputees to compensate partial function of the damaged limb, including upper limb prosthesis and lower limb prosthesis. Prosthesis is mainly made of aluminum plate, wood, leather, plastic and other materials. Its joints are made of metal parts. Now titanium alloy and carbon fiber are the mainstream materials in the field of prosthetics. Prosthesis refers to artificial limb, which is used to replace limb dysfunction (temporary or permanent), or to cover up limb disability. The biggest difference between the prosthesis and the prosthesis (such as the false nose, the wig, etc.) is that the prosthesis is more functional, and only refers to the upper and lower limbs.

Upper limb prostheses are classified as shoulder amputated prostheses according to the position: it refers to the prostheses used by those whose amputated position reaches to part of the scapula, which are more common in patients with electric injury and are considered to be very serious disability. Upper arm prosthesis: refers to the prosthesis used when the amputation part reaches above the elbow joint. Elbow amputation prosthesis: refers to the prosthesis used by patients whose amputation site is missing in the whole forearm. Forearm prosthesis: refers to the prosthesis used by people whose amputation part is below the elbow joint. Carpal amputation prosthesis: refers to the prosthesis used by the patients whose amputation site is located at the carpal joint. The prosthesis used by the patients whose whole palms are missing: it may be the prosthesis used by the patients whose single fingers, multiple fingers or partial palms are missing.

The lower limb prostheses are classified as hip amputated prostheses according to the location: it is suitable for patients with hip amputation or very short thigh stumps. Thigh prosthesis: it is used for patients who have amputation at thigh and the length of stump is appropriate. Knee amputation prosthesis: it is used for amputation of knee joint or super long leg or extremely short leg. Crus prosthesis: it is used for patients with amputation of crus and appropriate length of stump. Foot prosthesis: used for patients with partial or complete loss of foot.

The disabled should choose prostheses under the guidance of technicians. Usually, technicians should provide 2-3 assembly schemes for the amputees according to their specific conditions, and explain the characteristics of various schemes in detail for the patients and their families to choose. After the prosthesis assembly plan is determined, exquisite manufacturing technology is needed to ensure the implementation of the design plan, especially the fabrication of the receiving cavity, the quality of joints and connectors, the alignment adjustment of prosthesis and body, etc.
