Why do amputees need orthosis in the process of wearing prostheses? For amputees, orthosis is an indispensable tool, which is a product specially produced for amputees. Usually it needs to be used together with the prosthetic products to help the patients prevent the deformity of the limbs and trunk. Then why do the patients need the orthoses to assist in the wearing process? Next, we need to know with what functions the orthoses have.

The functional functions of the prosthetic orthosis are as follows:

1. Orthosis has the function of stability and support: it is mainly to fix the prosthesis and the residual limb, limit the abnormal movement of the limb or trunk to maintain the stability of joint activity, and restore the bearing or movement ability in the activity.

2. Orthosis has the function of fixation and correction: correct deformity or prevent deformity aggravation by fixing lesions on limbs or trunk.

3. The protection and no-load of orthosis: by fixing the limb or joint of the patient's stump, limiting its abnormal activity, ensuring the normal alignment of limb and joint, the bearing joint of the leg can reduce or eliminate the long-term load.

4. Orthopedic appliance has the function of compensation and assistance: provide power or energy storage through some equipment, compensate for lost muscle function, or provide some weak muscles to help limbs move or make limbs move.

In medicine, external fixation is a method of fracture treatment, which has good curative effect and corresponding indications. In order to use orthopedics correctly in the application indications of fracture, we must correctly understand the advantages and disadvantages of using various orthopedics in the fixation treatment of fracture.

Orthopedic appliance is a kind of instrument which acts on human limbs and trunk, prevents and corrects deformity through the function of biomechanics principle, and treats and compensates its function. Orthopedics, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are the four pillars of rehabilitation medicine. The upper limb orthoses are mainly used to compensate for lost muscle strength, support paralyzed limbs, maintain or fix limbs and functional positions, provide traction to prevent contracture and prevent or correct deformities.

According to the function, the prostheses can be divided into two categories: fixed static and functional movement. Fixed orthotics have no moving parts, which are mainly used to fix limbs and functional positions and limit abnormal activities. The feature of functional orthosis is to allow a certain degree of limb movement, or to achieve the therapeutic purpose through the movement of scaffold. Sometimes upper limb orthoses can have both fixation and functional functions.

Spinal orthosis is mainly used to fix and protect the spine, correct the mechanical relationship of spinal abnormality, relieve the local pain of trunk, protect pathological changes from further damage, support paralyzed muscles, prevent and correct deformities. The purpose of correcting spinal diseases is to support the trunk, restrict movement and adjust the arrangement of spine.

The above is the introduction of the function of prosthetic orthosis. Patients must pay attention to the above items when using it to avoid secondary injury.
