So do the two main parameters, material and performance, that determine the price of the prosthesis, be the better and more complete (that is, the more expensive) the best? The answer is: not necessarily.

A. From the perspective of performance:

For example, the conclusion of the activity is relatively simple for the disabled who are too old or too weak. To some extent, the products with full performance and more (i.e. more expensive) are not suitable for this kind of people. In the use process of artificial limbs, many performances cannot be fully utilized, nor can they be given due play, and unnecessary costs have been spent. The best prosthesis is suitable for the customer's own conditions.

B. From the perspective of materials:

Carbon fiber, titanium alloy, magnesium alloy, aluminum alloy and stainless steel are all commonly used materials to make artificial limb products. Carbon fiber and titanium alloy, the aerospace materials with light weight, good hardness and excellent toughness, are good joint materials, but the high price will follow. In the production of prosthesis joints, in order to save costs for customers, manufacturers sometimes use other materials to make some joints with better performance and full function. In fact, it does not affect the performance or even service life of joints. There are generally two ways:

A. The weight of the joint increases a lot (compared with carbon fiber material) and the price decreases when the alloy material (such as aluminum alloy) with larger proportion and lower price is used;

B. New and excellent alloy materials (such as magnesium alloy) with the same specific gravity are used, the weight of joints is equivalent (compared with carbon fiber materials), and the price is reduced;

But the former (Class A) material proportion is too large, the disabled friends will pay more physical strength when wearing artificial limbs, and the walking ability will be reduced correspondingly. From the analysis of service life and effect, of course, the products of the latter (class B) will be better, because the proportion of joint materials is relatively close, and the physical consumption is the same, resulting in the same walking ability, but for consumers, the cost of spending is greatly reduced. As a rational prosthetic appliance consumer, when purchasing goods, you should make a comprehensive consideration and analysis, and you will find that the most expensive is not necessarily what you need.

Many disabled friends pay great attention to the characteristics of the joint when they purchase the prosthesis, but they often neglect the characteristics of the ankle, the prosthesis foot and the acceptor cavity; some customers care about the materials of the joint, but they do not consider the performance of the joint, and even forget the real purpose of making the prosthesis joint with good materials (in fact, it is mainly to reduce the weight of the prosthesis and the energy expenditure in the walking of customers) In fact, the comprehensive performance of artificial limb is composed of the receiving cavity, artificial limb joint, ankle, artificial foot, functional parts, artificial muscle, etc., so only reasonable configuration can achieve the best application effect, reduce physical consumption, increase comfort, and increase walking ability.

Therefore, when you choose the prosthesis products, you can choose the materials suitable for your prosthesis joints at a reasonable price without affecting the quality and performance of the products. In this way, you can purchase a complete set of high configuration prostheses at an ideal price. For example, if you plan to configure the joints of carbon fiber series and low-standard single axle ankle and foot board (such as wooden foot), it's better to purchase the joints of magnesium alloy series and middle and high-standard universal ankle and foot board (such as high-strength nylon and carbon fiber foot board) at a considerable cost.
