Why do I need to tie a bandage before putting on a prosthetic leg?

Wrap a special elastic bandage before installing the prosthesis, which can control edema, protect the incision during functional activities, and provide plasticity and desensitization assistance to the residual limb to prepare for the formal assembly of the prosthesis.

In addition, if the operation does not heal, it is recommended not to tie a bandage, you need to wait until healed, otherwise it will affect the blood circulation and cause swelling of the residual limb.

Precautions and methods for tying bandages

The bandages used should be kept dry and clean, and the residual limbs should also be kept dry. Except for bathing, massaging residual limbs or exercising, keep an elastic bandage wrapped 24 hours a day.

①Wrap the elastic bandage in an oblique direction instead of the horizontal loop as everyone thinks.

② It is necessary to alternately wrap the inside and outside continuously. If it is wound in one direction along the end of the residual limb, it is easy to form wrinkles in the skin scar.

③The bandage should extend above the knee joint, at least one circle above the kneecap. When the bandage is wrapped around the thigh, care should be taken to gradually reduce the pressure of the bandage.

④ At the end, the bandage should be tied obliquely over the end of the stump. Need to use tape to fix, try not to use pins.

Tip: It is recommended to re-wrap every 3~4 hours. If the bandage slips off or is pleated, re-wrap it at any time
