How long can my prosthesis last?

 

In general, the prosthetic limbs have an average life of three years. However, depending on age, activity level and (children's) growth, the length of use of the prosthesis will vary. Especially in the early stages after amputation, muscle weakness occurs in the residual limb, which may cause you to replace the receiving cavity, inner liner or something else. As you use your prosthesis for longer periods of time, you may have a higher level of activity and more willingness to move, which may require replacement or adjustment of the prosthesis. In any case, you should check your prosthesis regularly to avoid major problems that may occur.
