Classification of lower limb prostheses

[Abstract]:

The purpose of using prostheses: to maintain the equal length of both legs, support weight and walking. The lower limb prosthesis is composed of the alignment device and the suspension device of the lower limb prosthesis, which is the connecting part of the bionic foot and the artificial joint. There are many types of prostheses, from the purpose of use and amputation site, they can be classified as follows:

1.Classification from use purpose

(1)Training prosthesis: it is also called simple prosthesis or pylonprosthesis. This type of prosthesis is for the purpose of stump training and prosthesis training. Before the assembly of the formal prosthesis, pylon prosthesis as a temporary prosthesis is is the earliest one.It is composed of a receiving cavity to accommodate the stump and a wooden stick to maintain the length of the limb. Therefore, it is also called stick leg. It is still in the early treatment and In training, it is often used to fix the stump receiving cavity or shoulder belt.

(2)Commonly used prosthesis: this type is a kind of commonly used prosthesis, which can be used for decoration and work.

2.Classification by structure

(1)External skeleton: the part of the surface of the prosthesis that is equivalent to the shell and has a supporting structure, also known as the "shell type" prosthesis traditional prosthesis.

(2)Internal framework type: the prosthesis is is equipped with a pump like support structure inside, and there are also prostheses similar to the shape and structure of the limbs

3 .Classification from amputation plane

(1) Hip prosthesis: it is usually used in pestle and rotary type after hip disconnection and hemipelectomy in the past. The basic structure of hip prosthesis is: socket, bumper, elastic band, thigh, knee hinge, leg and foot.

(2) Thigh prosthesis: according to the length of the stump after amputation, it can be divided into long, medium and short types. The basic structure is: the small leg and foot of the knee hinge of the thigh receiving cavity.
