[Abstract]:
Basic function of upper limb orthosis

1)

Fixed function

Also known as static function, fixed of joints, fracture sites to promote healing of lesions or tissues. This kind of orthosis is used to fix limb function, limit abnormal movement of limbs, restore upper limb function, suitable for inflammation of upper limb joint and tendon sheath, traumatic injury, etc.

2)

Adjuvant function

Also known as dynamic function, this kind of orthosis is used to prevent the occurrence of upper limb deformity and joint overstretch, to ensure the effect after operation and the normal development of bone during development.

3)

Corrective function
Also know as orthopaedic function to prevent and correct joint deformities. This type of orthosis is used to control the development of deformities by applying only a small force through the principle of three-point force correction to correct deformities of the fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders without pain.

4)

Also know as enhanced function, compensatory loss of muscle function. This type of orthosis uses elastic devices such as springs, rubber bands, plastic elastomers, or through pneumatic, electric or cable-controlled devices to strengthen finger movement and train muscle strength. Including the use of some auxiliary tools, self-help appliances to help paralyzed patients restore function.

5) protective funtion

Protect weak muscles. Protect the upper limb from injury or lesion, prevent overstretch or strain of joints and tendons, promote the healing of lesions, and also protect some surgical scar sites. From simple wood splint to complex suspension and traction equipment, all belong to this kind of norm distortion.
